It just doesn’t work like that ….. So don’t do it!

Very often, because of their misconceptions about how medicine is practiced, individuals do things that seem logical to them but that are otherwise ill-advised. The following are some examples of this:

  1. Using antibiotics or other medicines that were prescribed for someone else because there was some left over. This may lead to under-treatment of the first person and incorrect treatment of the second. This practice may also breed resistant organisms. Do not use medications prescribed for someone else!!

  2. Someone you know who is not a medical doctor, thinks that you need a colon cleansing procedure to solve some abdominal discomfort that you may be experiencing, and you are wondering whether you should go ahead and allow them to do it for you . This is a current fad that is extremely dangerous!  Do not allow anyone without medical training to insert any foreign objects into you!! This can lead to intestinal perforation which is a surgical emergency. If a catheter is to be placed in you, it should be done by a medical doctor and preferably with a TV monitor that can track the catheter movement within you. ……So don’t do it!

  3. If you feel really ill …….. Do not stay at home and expect it to go away. It just doesn’t work like that ….. so don’t do it!  Seek medical care!!I have mentioned this several times because it is very important and may keep you alive.
  1. If you get a certain effect from a particular dose of a drug, then doubling the dose does not in most cases, give you a doubling of the same effect……… It doesn’t work like that ….. Depending on the drug, it may lead to disastrous results. So don’t do it!! …….. Follow dosing instructions.
